Capers

9th December 2021

Brought to you this week by Keystone Capital

G’day,

Division 1 v Goodwood 4.1.21

Another disappointing day at the ballpark. Coming up against another contender in Goodwood we just did not produce the goods.

Our pitchers in Greg Mosel and Nick Carfora did a good enough job in keeping the Indians to four runs. A commendable effort against one of the better sides of the competition.

However, we again failed to generate any drive with our bats off one of the oldest pitchers in the league - John Challinor who kept our batters to five scattered hits and our only run coming from a single Hr in the second by Austin Gallagher.

Our hitters were Austin Gallagher 2, Kosei Suzuki, Jack Platten, Mike Bishop 1 each

Greg Mosel took the pill for 6 innings for 5 hits, 4 strikeouts, 2 walks, 3 runs. Nick Carfora followed for 3 innings for 4 hits, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks, 1 run.

We’ll need to do much better in the double-header against Henley on Saturday to stay in the game.

Our Other Senior Divisions

Division 2 fought it out to the end before going down 5-2 against Goodwood. Our young Senior League players are starting to show the benefits of playing against a higher standard of competition.

Division 3 started well but could not finish the job against Goodwood before going down 7-5, with the Indians scoring all 7 runs in the one innings

Division 6 also started well with 5 runs in their first but 7 runs were not enough with Goodwood running out winners 11-7

Division 7 just could not get on the board and lost to Goodwood 11-0.

Division 8 came home with a wet sail and scored a maximum 7 runs in their last at bat to secure a 13-13 draw against Goodwood who cleaned them up last time. A great effort to come from behind especially as it was C’J’s 800th Club Games for the Cardinals. Great stuff Chris! Congratulations!

The Guard of Honor The Division 8 Team

Women’s League had an absorbing game against Port Adelaide and were 8-7 up at the bottom of the fourth, but with Port scoring 5 and the Cardinals 1 in the fifth Port came away with a 12-9 win

Our Senior and Junior Leagues

Senior League gave it a shake scoring 5 runs in the third but could not get one across the plate in their last at bat and went down in a close one with Henley winning 9-8.

Junior League D1 kept up the run rate scoring in every innings and allowing Henley only one chance in their seventh with the Cardinals winning 10-7

Junior League D2 matched Goodwood all day but just failed to get that extra run in the sixth to even the score allowing Goodwood to claim the win at 14-13. Had a great time helping Coach Jack Platten and the boys - brought back some memories

Little League D1 It’s been a tough year for this team, however there has been continual improvement week by week and that’s what coaching is all about - improvement and enjoying the game. Keep it up Tam and Jenny you’re doing a great job.

Intermediate League had the Bye

Minor League Kensington had a comfortable win over Gawler Rangers scoring runs in all of their innings and coming away with a 9-3 victory

Minor League Cardinals had the Bye
