Capers

7th October 2021

Brought to you this week by William Buck

Howdy,

It’s been a while since I last sent out a Capers and this will be brief to bring you up to date for the coming season.

The biggest change is that all senior games will now be played on Saturdays with Junior games on Sunday. Some will say it’s great and some will say, ridiculous. But, only time will tell if it will be the way in the future.

Which means that the main game, the Division 1, will now be played on Saturdays commencing at 4.00 pm with Division 2 at 1.30 pm and Division 3 at 11.10 am. Our Divisions 6 and 7 will play on the opposite away field at 9.30 and 11.50 respectively. The Division 8 will play in front of the Division 3 starting at 9.00 am.

Juniors will play on Sundays with start times ranging from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

We will still have our Champion Women’s team lining up for another shot at glory. If there are any women that are interested Coach Adrian Gibbs would like to hear from you. Just a few more and we could put in another team.

We have entered fifteen teams this season - 8 Senior and 8 junior, but we could still do with a few mor players at all levels.

We have had a couple of departures in Bas Nooij (to Henley) and Tom Fitzgerald (Goodwood). However the good newe is that Greg Mosel will not be persuing an ABL spot and has elected to stay with Kensington and has been appointed the Club’s Pitching Coach which is great news.

Coach Austin Gallagher has been busy in recruiting replacements for the departed players. Two young and up-and-coming players from Adelaide in Lachlan and Jason Spratt will help fill the void, Plus an exciting young Japanese player from Henley in Kosei Suzuki who has fitted in well with the playing group.

While we may not be the world beaters of the past we will be competitive. Just be patient while the team settles down and gets to play the Kensi way.

Our Juniors are a mixed bag and hopefully they will play some good baseball and some stars will emerge for the future. For the first time in many years two women in Tamara Harkin and Jenny Barker are taking on coaching our Little League. Some years back Fay Young and Chris Waltham coached junior teams, with an opposition coach saying of Fay ‘she can’t coach, she’s a woman’. Imagine saying that today?

Attached is the Division 1 schedule for the season. All other grades can be found on the Baseball SA website under competitions at baseballsa.com.au.

I’ll be putting out the regular Capers from now on. Let’s hope all teams have a good season and this Saturday exercise will be successful, both for baseball and the Clubs

See you at the ballpark on Saturday and Sunday, if you’ve got the time

Cheers for now,

Arthur Mac
