Cardinals Capers - 4 March 2022

Published Fri 04 Mar 2022

Howdy. Just a quick re-cap of the last two Division 1 games

Division 1 v Adelaide: Well, what an unusual game. Adelaide jumped us at the start with five hits and put on three runs and our thoughts were oh it’s going to be one of those days.

Fortunately, Austin Gallagher evened the score with a three-run hr. Phew, were back in the game and with a further five runs for the innings we were 8-3 up.

Our batting continued on scoring another three in our second followed by two in the third.

The fourth produced another 9 runs from solid batting with Jack Platten’s double batting in two runs and Kosei Suzuki bringing in another two with a long bomb over the centerfield fence. Some 11 batters contributed to the nine runs.

A solitary run in the fifth gave the Cardinals 23 runs. The highlight was surely Bryce Allen’s Gs Hr, his first ever, you just couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. Great stuff Bryce!

The Angels managed only three more runs after a change of pitchers. The final scoreline being 23-6.

Our hitters were Kosei Suzuki, Adrian Chenoweth 3 each; Riley Moore, Greg Mosel, Jack Platten, Bryce Allen 2 each; Austin Gallagher, Michel Bishop, Josh Whelan 1 each - 17 hits in total! RBIs came from Bryce Allen 6, Kosei Suzuki 3, Adrian Chenoweth, Austin Gallagher, Riley Moore, Josh Whelan 2 each, Greg Mosel, Jack Platten 1 each.

Pitching was entrusted to Greg Mosel who had an unfortunate start when he gave up 5 hits and Adelaide scored their three runs in the first. From that point Greg pitched a further 4 innings not conceding a hit or giving up a walk while striking out 3 batters. Well done, Greg! Mike Bishop rolled the arm over for two innings, in preparation for when the finals come

Division 1 v Woodville: The Senators always give you a hard time and one has to be on ones game to beat them.

After a somewhat slow start and scoring one run in our second the team opened up in the third and some 1 betters faced up highlighted by Kosei Suzuki’s three-run Hr adding 9 runs to the scoreline.

We petered out somewhat for the next three innings with only two hits and no runs - we took the foot off the pedal!

The Senators scored two in the fifth, two in the sixth from home runs and one in the seventh.

The seven innings finished in an hour and 40 minutes giving the Cardinals a 10-5 win

Our hitters were Kosei Suzuki 3, Bryce Allen 2, 1 each to Adrian Chenoweth, Auatin Gallagher, Mike Bishop, Greg Mosel, Cooper Peacock, Jack Platten. RBis came from Kosei Suzuki 3, Jack Platten 2 and 1 each from Mike Bishop, Greg Mosel, Cooper Peacock

Pitching saw Riley Moore take the pill to the hill and for 7 innings gave he up 8 hits, struck out 5 with 0 walks and conceding 5 runs.
