Cardinals Capers - 25 Feb 2022

Published Fri 25 Feb 2022

Howdy. Just a quick re-cap of the last two Division 1 games

Division 1 v East Torrens (Washed-out Game) plans

Our best laid plans went out the window when two players reported in sick just before game time. This caused a major reshuffle and somewhat unsettled the side with Nick Carfora having to shoulder pitching duties after having pitched on the Saturday and with a limited number of pitchers left.

Nick kept the Redsox to four runs before Austin Gallagher took over and four more runs were added.

The Cardinals, unfortunately, could not get any drive off young Riley Yateman and it was not until the seventh that any runs were added to the scoresheet. With a change in pitching, but with two out and bases loaded Austin Gallagher launched a big Grand Slam Hr over the creek to finish with a scoreline of 8-4 to the Redsox.

Our hitters were Kosei Suzuki, Bryce Allen 2 each, Nick Platten, Austin Gallagher, Adrian Chenoweth, Jack Platten 1 each.

Pitching: Nick Carfora for 4 innings, 8 hits, 1 strikeout, 2 walks, 4 runs. Austin Gallagher 2 innings for 2 hits, 1 strikeout, 2 walks, 3 hpb, 4 runs

Division 1 v Goodwood

Again we were struck down with the dreaded Covid when two key players were tested positive, and two players working in Waikerie, thus again having to patch up the side with those left

It looked positive in our first when Kosei Suzuki doubled and came home on Adrian Chenoweth’s single. Again in the fifth Adrian Chenoweth singled, was advanced by hits from Austin Gallagher and Mike Bishop and came home on Riley Moore’s sac fly .

Our third came when Josh Whelan singled advanced to third on Jack Platten’s single and came home on a wild pitch.

Most disappointing was the fact that we had bases loaded three times during the game but could not drive in any runs

The Indians scored four in their third and three in the fifth to run out 7-3 winners.

We had our chances, but could not capitalize, somewhat disappointing, for it was a winnable game!

Our hitters were Kosei Suzuki, Adrian Chenoweth 2 each, Austin Gallagher, Mike Bishop, Greg Mosel, Josh Whelan, Jack Platten 1 each.

Pitching: Riley Moore 5 innings for 9 hits, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, 7 runs. Greg Mosel 1 Innings for 1 hit, 1 strikeout, 1 walk, 0 runs.

Other Senior Results

Division 2 had a close one against Gawler going down 4-1.

Divisoon 3 cleaned up Gawler 18-3

Division 7 started well but could not sustain the momentum and went down 15-4.

Division 8 had a tough one against Gawler and went down 16-2

Women’s League

What an exciting close game against Goodwood. Starting well with a tree-run home run from Tracy Gibbs and then a maximum five run innings, they were well up at 10-3 at the bottom of the third.

Goodwood were not done and scored 9 runs in their next two innings giving them a 12-10 lead.

The Cardinals scored 1 in their fourth and fortunately good batting in their fifth gave them a 13-12 win - exciting stuff. Well done!

Definitely a First. Never seen before. Four umpires officiating a Women’s League game on Friday evening. Austin Gallagher (plate), Nick Collins (first), Ali Tanner (second), Jack Robinson (third).

A good job done by all!

Junior Results

Senior League are battling to stay in the top six having to play sides that are above them. Against Souths a 10-2 loss was not expected. Then against the Top team in East Torrens they fought hard against top pitching and without a full compliment of players before going down 2-1.

Junior League D1 keep rolling along with a huge 12-3 victory against Port Adelaide. Big hits by Lachlan South - a three-run Hr and a long bomb by Eligah Spratt were highlights waith a solid pitching performance from Jett Chenoweth.

Junior League D2 gave up too many runs in the first, but stemmed the tide somewhat and came home with a rush before going down 9-5 against Gawler.

Intermediate League just can’t get the upperhand against South but gave it a shot before going down 16-8.

Little League D1 suffered at the hand of Port Adelaide and were defeated 12-0

Minor League Kensi had a convincing win over the Indians - 10-1

Minor League Cards had their best win of the season when they cleaned up Golden Grove 10-0. Great stuff guys. Well done!

PeeWee League keep enjoying success with another convincing win over West Torrens

With the season coming to a close the minor and junior grades have two game s left and the

Division 1 five we are looking to participate in finals with some seven teams in the mix at present. So good luck to all!
