Division 1 v Glenelg 19.12.21

A somewhat interesting game against Glenelg who in past years were one of the pace setters are now in a somewhat of a rebuilding phase. Not unlike ourselves.

A close game for five innings with the Cardinals scoring two runs. The first from a Hr from Mike Bishop in the second and with Mike on base via single in the third was batted in by Brice Allen’s single.

To this point the Bays were held scoreless by Riley Moore’s superb pitching - giving up one hit.

Then in the sixth Kosei Suzuki led off with a single, followed by Austin Gallagher’s single, some wayward fielding by Glenelg and a single by Cooper Peacock and a sac fly by Josh Whelan saw the Cardinals add five runs to their tally.

With the Bays not able to score we finished the game with a 7-0 win.

Our hitters were; Mike Bishop 2 and 1 each to Kosei Suzuki, Austin Gallagher, Bryce Allen, Cooper Peacock. RBIs came from Sean Maple, Mike Bishop, Bryce Allen, Cooper Peacock, Josh Whelan      1 each.

Pitching again was in the hands of Riley Moore who again put in a solid performance pitching

7 innings, giving up 2 hits, striking out 8, allowing 3 walks for 0 runs - can’t do better than that!

Nick Carfora completed the game with 2 innings pitched for 3 hits, 0 strikeouts, 0 walks and 0 runs.

That gives the Cardinals 11 games played, 8 wins, 3 losses, 75 runs for, 32 against, differential 43, for 16 points and second spot on the Premiership Table. However, losing Sean Maple and Jack Platten to College Baseball in January will mean that we’ll have two spots to fill in our line-up. It will be interesting to see who will step-up to fill the void.

The Other Senior Divisions

Division 2  found it difficult to score runs against a solid Glenelg and lost 13-1. In defence of the team it was probably one of the youngest sides that we have put in the field for quite some time, consisting in the main Under 17 players.

Division 3 seem to have a habit of bringing themselves unstuck by having one bad innings in the field. Giving up 5 runs in the fourth cost them the win and they lost 8-7 to Glenelg.

Division 6 with a depleted team battled against Glenelg and went down 9-3

Division 7 gave it a bit of a shake, scoring 6 runs in their last two at bats but gave up five runs in the first to go down 16-7 against Glenelg.

Division 8 faced their bogey pitcher in Jamie Bushell and found it tough, but scored 3 in their last at bat to go down 10-3 to Goodwood, The guys have had a reasonable first half of the season.

Keep it up!

Women’s League found it tough going, but after the first two innings outscored Golden Grove 4-1 before going down 12-6

The Junior Divisions

Senior League did not play due to a Covid-19 problem at Golden Grove

Junior League D1 claimed a forfeit. Golden Grove could not fill a team

Junior League D2 played Adelaide in a make-up game as Adelaide’s, game against Golden Grove was abandoned. Jack Platen has now officially coached his last game with the team. The boys gave him a going away present with a resounding 15-7 win. He’s gone out as a winning coach. Good luck in College Jack!

International League Coach Mark Pfitzner was excited with the boy’s win over ET. It all came down th their last at bat. His comments - ‘Paul Bon’s in the field Hr tied the game. Lachy was the winning run over the plate with Remy Black driving in the run’ Well done guys. What a way to go to the Christmas break

Little League D1’s game was also abandoned

Minor League Cardinals won another close win. With the game all tied up scored the 1 run to win the game in their last at bat. Good on’ya chaps!

Minor League Kensington tied up the ball game in their last at bat and held off  WT to draw the game at 4-4. An unusually small run tally for an Under 11 game.

Pee Wee League finished their first half of the season with a win over Northern Districts

Abandoned Junior Games

Baseball SA are re-scheduling the junior games that were abandoned due to the Covid-19 outbreak at Golden Grove and these will be played as mid-week twilight game in the New Year

Michael Bishop notched up 400 Senior Club Games for the Kensington Baseball Club on the weekend. Michael has risen through the ranks to become one of the Cardinals most prolific batters in recent times. To put the ‘icing on the cake’ Michael clouted a Hr in the game against Glenelg last Saturday. Well done ‘Bish’, a great achievement, we’re proud of you!
