Howdy All,

Trusting you all had a good break and your Christmas and New Year went without any concerns with Covid-19.

Division 1 v Sturt - 4.1.22

With no rest for the wicked  we were back on the park on Tuesday January 4th against Sturt at home, a tough one to start with.

Sturt opened with a Hr in the first, giving us a bit of a fright, thinking that more was to come. However, the game developed into a classic pitcher’s duel with our Riley Moore and Sturt’s Damon Arnold commanding proceedings.

It was not until the sixth when we first evened the game when with two out Nick Platten singled, Austin Gallagher was given the ‘four finger salute’ putting him on first. Mike Bishop then singled into centerfield pushing Nick over the home plate.

Riley Moore was our next batter up. He hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, however it was dropped and Austin scampered home for the winning run - what a relief!

Our hitters were Nick Platten 2; Kosei Suzuki, Austin Gallagher, Mike Bishop 1 each

Riley Moore our starting pitcher gave another superb performance for 6.2 innings giving up 7 scattered hits, striking out 6 batters and allowing 3 walks for the1 run. Greg Mosel closed out the innings - keeping him fresh for when we play 3 games in 5 days

Division 1 v Port Adelaide 8.1.22

Coming up against Port Adelaide is no guarantee, even though they are at the lower end of the Premiership Table.

The Cardinals opened in the first from a two run Hr by Mike Bishop.

The game came alive again in the fourth when with a succession of hits, walks, an error and a grand slam Hr by Austin Gallagher we added a further seven runs

We added a further run in the fifth from a sac fly by Nick Platten with brother Jack on base and again in the seventh Austin Gallagher’s sac Fly brought Kosei Suzuki home.

With Port scoring their only run from a Hr the game ended in a mercy 11-1.

Our Hitters were Austin Gallagher, Mike Bishop, Nick Carfora, Jack Platten 2 each; Nick Platten, Greg Mosel, Cooper Peacock 1 each for 4 hits, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks for 1 run. struck out the last batter.

Pitching was entrusted to Nick Carfora who threw 6.2 innings for 4 hits, 5 strikeouts, 2 walks for 1 run a - good effort from Nick.  Ali Tanner came in and struck out the last batter.

Division 1 v Goodwood 11.1.22

Another game initially dominated by pitching. In the fourth Goodwood homered to put them 1 run up.

Not to be outdone our Riley Moore did the same, now 1-1.

We scored again in the fifth when Kosei Suzuki singled, scampered around the bases an came home on a wild pitch - now 2-1 up. A error in the fifth by the Cardinals evened the score at 2-2.

The wheels fell off in the seventh when with a succession of errors the Indians added a further 3 runs.

We had a chance to tie or win, even with 2 out and two on through walks we were not able to score.

Our hitters were Riley Moore 2, Kosei Suzuki, Nick Platten, Austin Gallagher, Greg Mosel, Nick Carfora 1 each.

Riley Moore gave it all for 7 innings for 9 hits, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, 3 earned runs.

To say the least a disappointing game that should have finished a 2-2 draw, spoilt by some poor defensive play by the Cardinals.

Now, to make amends against Henley on Thursday.
