G’day,

Well, it’s tough times having to play three games in five days. Don’t know what Baseball SA think we are - ‘Profesionals’? I don’t think so. Having to make up the second game of a double header when there was no reason why it couldn’t be played on the scheduled day - in my opinion.

Division 1 v Henley & Grange

Not the best result. Two scattered safe hits from Austin Gallagher and Riley Moore will not win a ballgame. Coupled with fundamental fielding mistakes saw the Rams outscore us 7-0.

Our starting pitcher in Greg Mosel did enough to keep the Rams to only four runs. However, with having to conserve pitching for Saturdays game Ali Tanner took to the mound. Unfortunately Ali had some trouble in finding his zone and Mike Bishop closed out the game with his left arm ‘woblies’

Enough said!

Division 1 v Adelaide

With a day’s break we were at it again on Saturday against Adelaide and looking to get back to what we like doing - winning!

Adelaide scored 1 in their first and it was in the third that the Cardinals decided to go to work.

When Jack Platten doubled brother Nick batted him in with a single to leftfield for our first run, then was pushed around to third by Austin Gallagher’s single to leftfield. Up came Riley Moore and he  launched a huge 3 run Hr over the high leftfield fence giving the Cards a 4-1 lead.

Runs in the fourth and fifth blew our lead out to 6-1. However the Angels came back with a 2 run hr in the bottom of the fifth to reduce the margin to 6-3.

More big hitting in the sixth when with Jack Platten, Kosei Suzuki and Nick Platten on base Austin Gallagher launched a huge grand slam Hr over the left-center fence pushing our lead out to 10-3.

The Angels, however, would not go away scoring 2 in the bottom of the sixth and 2 in the seventh, giving us some concern and reducing our lead to a mere 3 runs.

With two runs batted in by Mike Bishop in the eighth and three in the ninth when one came from

a bases loaded walk and two came home on an infield error.

With the Angles scoring one in their final frame the Cardinals finished 15-8 winners.

Our hitters were Austin Gallagher 3, Riley Moore 3, Jack Platten 3; Mike Bishop 2, Nick Platten 2, Kosei Suzuki , Cooper Peacock 1 each = 15

RBIs came from Austin Gallagher 4, Mike Bishop 4, Riley Moore 3, Kosei Suzuki, Nick Platten 1 each.

Our pitching was entrusted to Nick Carfora, starting, for 6 innings, 6 hits, 6 strike outs, 4 walks 5 runs with Greg Mosel following for 3 innings for 4 hits, 4 strike outs, 1 walk for 3 runs

Division 1 v West Torrens

After such a good game against Adelaide we were primed to take on the top team who have only lost the one game this season, so far.

The Cardinals got off to a good start when Kosei Suzuki singled, stole second and was batted in by Austin Gallagher’s clout to rightfield

The Eagles responded with two runs in the even first. I’ve got to question the scorers judgement as to whether the second batter’s hit was safe or a muffed fly at short left field, not centerfield. If the fly was caught the runner at third would not have gone. The outcome could have been different.

The game then developed into another pitcher’s duel until the sixth with Mike Bishop belting a long Hr over the leftfield fence - evening the score at 2-2.

The Eagles scored a third run in the sixth when their leadoff batter walked was sac bunted to second and brought home via a clip to centerfield. Thus the game finished 3-2 to West Torrens.

It was one of our better batting displays - we out hit them 8-5. Hits came from Mike Bishop 2, Cooper Peacock 2, and 1 each from Kosei Suzuki, Austin Gallagher, Riley Moore, Jordan Spratt. RBIs were from Austin Gallagher 1, Mike Bishop 1 (hr).

Pitching was entrusted to Riley Moore who again put up a great performance for 6 innings, giving up 5 hits, striking out 2, allowing 3 walks for 3 runs - good work against the top side!

A disappointing loss. However, it showed that we are capable of matching it with best and all going well we should be in the playoffs by the end of the minor round.

Other Senior Division Games

Women’s League had a comfortable 11-7 win over Northern Districts with Vanessa Ho and Katie Connor notching up

50 club games. Congratulations - keep up the good work!

Division 2  snuck in with a  2-1 close win against Adelaide.

A good result from this young side, topped up with a couple

of ‘oldies’. Keep it up guys!

Division 3 were never really in the game and went down

13-2 against Adelaide

Division 6 scored a comfortable 12-2 win over Adelaide

Division 7 continue to battle away but could not match Adelaide and went down 15-3.             Vanessa and Katie

Division 8 tied it up in their last at bat and held off Adelaide to finish with a 6-6 draw

Juniors are still in recess until the 30th January

Now to finish off the run of 5 games in 8 days against East Torrens at Paynham tomorrow and then some respite with a bye the following Tuesday. Covid-19 has been taking its toll with players tested positive, with others in isolation, but as with other clubs we have to deal with it game by game.

Stay safe and look after your loved ones

Cheers for now.
