Howdy,

Division 1 v Northern Districts 12.2.22

It became somewhat of a home run derby against the unfortunate Reds who suffered some big hitting with all starting nine players amassing 22 hits being our biggest tally for the season.

A solitary run was scored in our second when Riley Moore was batted in by Greg Mosel’s sac fly. Then the floodgates started to open. Kosei Suzuki doubled, Nick Platten gained first on a hpb, then Austin Gallagher opened up and launched a three-run dinger over the rightfield fence.

Mike Bishop, not to be outdone followed with a single hr, deep to leftfield. Jack Platten walked, was pushed around by Bryce Allen’s single and was batted in by Kosei’s second hit of the innings. Kosei scampered home on a wild pitch and an infield error. Nick Platten’s single batted in Bryce - six runs for the innings.

A clutch of errors in the fourth allowed the Cardinals to score five more runs and with two out Austin launched his second hr.

In the fifth Nick Carfora started another run of six runs with his own long bomb over the leftfield fence. Greg Mosel walked, Jack Platten beat out an infield fc then Kosei with his third hit of the game batted in Greg and Jack. Nick Platten batted in Kosei with a double, then up came Austin who clouted his third hr batting in two more runs.

To finish off and mercy the game Nick Carffora led off with a single, advanced to third on Greg Mosel’s double and was batted in by Jack Platten’s sac fly. Bryce Allen doubled and with two out Nick Platten joined the hr brigade with a two-run hr over leftfield.

With a pitching change the Reds scored their two runs in the sixth with two out, courtesy of an error with the Cardinals running out 24-2 winners.

Our batters bumped up their batting average with some solid hitting coming from  Kosei Suzuki and Nick Platten 4 each, Austin Gallagher 3, Mike Bishop, Nick Carfora, Greg Mosel 2 each, Riley Moore, Todd Marshall, Jack Platten, Bryce Allen, Zeb Chant 1 each. RBIs came from Austin Gallagher 7, Kosei Suzuki, Nick Platten 4 each, Bryce Allen 2, Mike Bishop, Nick Carfora, Greg Mosel, Jack Platten, Zeb Chant 1 each.

Pitching was entrusted to Nick Carfora who had a great day out. Apart from his hr, pitched superbly for a no-hitter in his five innings, striking out 6 with no walks and no runs. Excellent work Nick!

Division 1 v East Torrens 15.2.22

Up against the ‘old enemy’ the Cardinals were leading with a comfortable 3-1 lead after four innings courtesy of two long bombs by Kosei Suzuki and Nick Carfora. Riley Moore put us one run ahead with his solo Hr in the sixth.

Not to be out done the Redsox rallied in the seventh with three runs with two out from a bb, hpb, double to leftfield and a single to rightfield giving them the lead 5-4.

With the pressure on Bryce Allen walked to lead off the innings and was forced out from Kosei’s infield hit. Kosei advanced to second on Nick Platten’s sac fly. Austin Gallagher was given the ‘four fingers’ then Mike Bishop batted in Kosei to tie up the game.
