Brought to you this week by Tony and Marks

G’day,

Division 1 v Henley 7 Grange 11.12.21

What money would you put on the same event happening on two separate occasions against the same team?

Well it did happen. Kosei Suzuki did it again, as he did in the opening game of the season against Henley & Grange, his former club. Yep, lead-off batter, with two called strikes on him went bang on the next pitch and launched it over the leftfield fence, giving the Cardinals a one run start. That would have to be some sort of a record?

In the second with Mike Bishop via a walk and Greg Mosel on from a single, Riley Moore, our starting pitcher doubled to left field to bat in two runs, giving us a solid 3-0 start.

The Rams responded in the fourth from a Hr by their main batter in Landen Hernandez and again in the fifth from a sac fly - their only two runs for the game.

Our fourth run came from some wayward pitching by the Rams with Kosei scooting home on a wild throw. We loaded the bases through walks but could not score - a bit disappointing, with three batters striking out.

Riley batted in another run in the eighth and scored on Jack Platten’s sac fly.

To cap off a great game we scored two when with Sean Maple on base Mike Bishop belted a long Hr over the left field fence to give the Cardinals a resounding 8-2 victory.

To stiffen up our line-up it was decided that Greg Mosel, Nick Carfora and Riley Moore would play in the field and bat. This paid off with all contributing. Greg with one hit and taking a super catch at leftfield. Nick taking four difficult catches at rightfield and Riley Moore picking up three hits and batting in three runs. Who was it that said ‘pitchers can’t bat’?

Our Hitters were Riley Moore 3 and 1 each to Kosei Suzuki, Nick Platten, Sean Maple, Mike Bishop,

Greg Mosel. RBIs came from Riley Moore 3, Mike Bishop 2 and Kosei Suzuki and Jack Platten 1 each.

Riley Moore was given the pill and for a commanding 7 innings gave up 5 hits, struck out 6, walked 1 for 2 runs. Just a superb performance against one of the League leaders. Greg Mosel pitched 2 innings in relief giving up 4 hits 1 strikeout, 0 walks 0 runs.

All in all a great result! The Kensi boys were happy - as well as were the supporters!

Our Other Senior Divisions:

Division 2 were somewhat overwhelmed and lost 10-1 against Henley.

Division 3 put up some resistance but gave up 5 runs in the second to go down 6-2 against Henley

Division 6 with a 7 run first innings kept Henley at bay and snuck home with a 13-12 win

Division 7 with 8 players struggled against Henley and lost 11-3.

Division 8 are making a habit with coming from behind to win. They did it again scoring 7 in their last at bat to win 22-21 against Henley

Women’s Division had a resounding 15-6 win over Glenelg. Some great batting was a highlight scoring 4, 2, 4, 5 in their four innings. All players participated in the game

Our Junior Divisions:

Senior Division kept Glenelg from scoring while racking up 16 runs to win 16-0

Junior League D1 also had a massive win against Glenelg allowing them only one 1 while pushing 16 runners over the plate to win 16-1.

Junior League D2 had an absorbing game against Gawler Rangers before going down 10-7. This was Jack Platten’s last game as Coach. Jack will be leaving in January to play College Baseball In the USA.  We thank Jack for taking on the role of Coach. He did a great job and we wish him all the best in the next phase of his baseball career. Riley Moore, our Division 1 pitcher/player will be Jack’s replacement as coach.

Intermediate League had a great game against Adelaide not needing to bat in their last and come away with a 17-16 win. Some nail biting moments throughout the game. Good effort guys.

Jack receiving a signed uni top from the team

Little League D1 are now beginning to become competitive and took it up to Glenelg before going down 11-7. Keep it up team, you’re doing a great job.

Minor League (Kensington) lost a close one against Port Adelaide 7-6. The boys are becoming a solid unit and with one more game pre-Christmas are looking forward to picking up the pace after the Christmas break

Minor League (Cardinals) unfortunately did not play due to a Covid-19 problem at Golden Grove.

Pee Wee League are still enjoying this great game of baseball with coach  Ben Robertson pleased with the way they play.
