Cardinals Capers - 16 April 2021

Published Thu 24 Mar 2022

Howdy.

Division 1 v Henley & Grange - Game 1

Not much to talk about in the first of a three-game final series when the Rams outscored us 9-0. Most disappointing. Our only hits came from Kosei Suzuki, Austin Gallagher, Michael Bishop, Adrian Chenoweth - scattered.. The Rams Wilson Lee pitched the whole 9 innings for 4 hits, 11 strikeouts,

1 walk, 0 runs and slammed a 2-run Hr. Our Riley Moore pitched 7 innings for 5 hits, 2 strikeouts, 3 walks, 8 earned runs. Again let down by errors and brain fades.

Division 1 v Henley & Grange - Game 2

Always a tough ask to come back on the Sunday and win back to back games to stay in the race.

For five innings we were in the hunt with the Rams only run coming from, guess who, Wilson Lee’s Hr. The game developed into a pitcher’s duel between our Greg Mosell and Henley’s Landon Hernandez.

Still within reach in the even sixth when Lee launched another bomb giving the Rams a 2-0 lead. They scored a further three runs in the seventh with Lee belting a two-run Hr.

We came to life somewhat in the eighth Josh Whelan singled, Kosei Suzuki batted him to third and Josh came home on a wt5. But that was it.

Wilson Lee won the game for the Rams with 4 at bats, three Hrs and 4 Rbis.

We, again were disappointing with our batting.

Our Hitters were Kosei Suzuki and Jordan Spratt 2 each (who replaced Jack Platten out with Covid), Nick Carfora, Josh Whelan 1 each.

Greg Mosell pitched his heart out for 8 innings for 10 hits, 10 strikeouts, 0 walks, 5 runs - four runs coming off the one batter.

Some soul searching now needed as to our requirements to remain competitive for next season and beyond.

Other Weekend Game Results

Our juniors continue to keep the Club to the forefront with three of four teams competing for the ‘holy grail’ this coming Sunday.

The Junior League D1 had a close 5-4 win over Adelaide. Down 4-0 coming to the bottom of the fifth scored 2, 2, 1 and held Adelaide out to win 5-4 in an exciting finish. Now to play East Torrens at Patterson Reserve, at 1.30 pm.

Intermediate League had a see-saw game with Adelaide with the Cardinals always in charge, scoring the maximum 7 runs in the second and fourth innings giving them a commanding 26-18 win. Some good batting and aggressive base running were the highlights. They now take on Goodwood at Mortlock Park on Sunday at 3.00 pm.

Minor League Kensi had an exciting close game against Henley that went down to the wire with the Cardinals winning 6-5. Do you reckon the boys were excited!. The parents were having a heart attack!
