Cardinals Capers - 10 March 2022

Published Thu 10 Mar 2022

Howdy. Just a quick re-cap of the last two Division 1 games

Division 1 v Glenelg: What an unusual game, a battle royal until the end, with the lead changing some five times.

The Bays were first on the board with a run in their first. We responded with one in our second followed by another in our third - 2-1 up.

With Austin Gallagher on base via a double to rightfield Michael Bishop launched a big Hr over the centerfield fence to make it 4-1. The Bays not to be outdone retaliated with a four run burst to put them one run up - 5-4. Austin Gallagher’s homer evened the score at 5-5

The Bays rallied again and put on three runs in reply making it 8-5 their way. A Glenelg pitching change gave the Cardinals a chance to claw back the runs when we added another five making the score 10-8 Cardinals.

Again the Bays pushed hard in the eighth and added one more run, now 10-9 Cardinals. Three consecutive hits from the Cardinals added a further two runs, with our Riley Moore closing out the game and preventing the Bays to add to their score with the final score 12-9 to the good guys.

A blast from the past. Not seen recently in baseball is the play with two out runners on first and third and the runner on first walking off early to get caught in a rundown and the opposition trying to tag him out before the runner from third scores. An ‘old head’ in Adrian Chenoweth pulled this off doing just that allowing the run to score before being tagged out. Great to see! Our younger players couldn’t work what was happening - they had never seen it done before.

Our hitters were Kosei Suzuki, Austin Gallagher 3 each; Jack Platten, Bryce Allen 2 each; Michael Bishop, Nick Carfora, Nick Platten 1 each. RBIs came from Michael Bishop 4, Kosei Suzuki 2, Nick Platten 2, Adrian Chenoweth 1, Austin Gallagher 1, Pack Platten 1.

Pitching was entrusted to Greg Mosel and in 104 pitches gave up 7 hits, struck out 1, walked 2 for 8 runs with 5 unearned. Riley Moore closed out the game. A good job by both!

Division 1 v Southern Districts To say the least a most disappointing game when we could only score two runs both from single home runs by Jack Platten and Austin Gallagher with Greg Mosel who went 2 for 3 and Todd Marshal and Mike Bishop the only other hitters.

Riley Moore was given the pill and for 7 innings gave up 3 hits, struck out 7, walked 4 for 2 runs, one unearned. He did his job, but not backed up by the rest of the team. Thus finishing in a 2-2 draw.

To top off the night Souths put in a protest stating Riley exceed his pitch count, which we are appealing.
