Howdy,

Division 1 (Game 1): Saturday, 19h December 2020 v Northern Districts:

Now for the double-headers. Why on a Saturday and on the last weekend before the Christmas break?

The first game saw the Cardinals jump to a six run lead after the first two at bats. Sean Maple lead off in the first and Bas Nooij cleared the left field fence with for a two-run HR. With two on base in the second Bas batted in two more runs with rbis coming from Austin Gallagher and Mike Bishop.

The following three innings were scoreless. Single HRs by Sean Maple in the sixth and Mike Bishop in the seventh rounded out an 8-0 win.

Our hitters were: Bas Nooij, Mike Bishop 2 each; Sean Maple, Nick Carfora, Jack Miller 1 each. RBIs came from Bas Nooij 4, Mike Bishop 2, Sean Maple, Greg Mosel 1 each.

It was Sean Maple’s first HR at the Division 1 level. Good effort Sean.

Greg Mosel pitched a shut-out for five innings for 2 hits, 6 strikeouts, 0 walks, 0 runs. Just another superb performance. Nick Carfora followed for two innings for 2 hits, 4 strike outs, 0 walks, 0 runs making it a complete game from both pitchers.

Division 1 (Game 2): Saturday, 19th December 2020 v Northern Districts:

The second game produced more excitement for the Cardinals’ fans, smashing the Reds 27-0.

In our first at bat we scored eight runs (the total of the first game) when twelve batters went to the plate picking up two walks and seven safe hits - and not one HR - amazing.

We continued on in the second scoring another seven runs aided by errors two walks and a further three hits.

With two runners on Josh Whelan belted a three run HR over left field fence. He was super proud as it was also his first HR - and against his old Club.

The Cardinals realy put the game beyond doubt in the fourth scoring a further nine runs when fourteen batters faced up, collecting nine safe hits with Austin Gallagher bringing in two runs with a long ball over the center field fence.

A nil score in the fifth finished the game in a mercy with the Cardinals running out 27-0 winners

Our hitters were Bas Nooij 5, Sean Maple 3, Mike Bishop 3, Jack Platten 3, Austin Gallagher 2, Josh Whelan 2, Bryce Allen, Nick Carfora, Nick Amato, Nick Platten, James Blundell 1 each.

Jason Lott pitched for 3 innings for 2 hits, 3 strike outs, 0 walks, 0 runs; followed by Todd Marshall for 2 innings, o hits, 2 strike outs, 0 walks, 0 runs

Our pitchers did an amazing job in 12 innings between them gave up just 6 hits, struck out 15 batters, did not allow a walk and with 0 runs crosing the plate. Fantastic!

Bas Nooij (our catcher) had his best day out since joining the Cardinals, collecting 7 hits (including a two-run hr), batting in 9 runs and scoring five times. Just a superb effort - well done Bas!

Other Results:

Division 3 went down 10-4 against Norths; Division 2 down 5-8 tied the game when Nick Amato belted a three-run HR to square the game at 8-8. It was Nick’s first HR in senior ball. You couldn’t wipe the smile off his face; Women’s League finished the first half of the season with a resounding 18-9 win over Glenelg. The’ve enticed Ashley Merkin back to cover for Tamara Harkin who is injured, but will recover for the run home after Christmas; Senior League had a tough one against Sturt going down 7-2. With the comp being split after Christmas we’ll have to wait and see which division they will play in; Junior League saw the Kensi and the Cards go head to head with the Cardinals dominating by winning 17-4. The game produced some highlights with Ali Tanner (Cards) and Jonah Spry (Kens) hitting dingers; Little League D1 was a hard fought game with Adelaide coming away with a 17-13 win. A good effort against one of the better sides; Minor League toughed it out against Norths but could not make up the lea way before going down 11-8..

A Budding BUASA Umpire!

Clay Glen has joined the umpiring ranks. Glen has been playing with the Division 7 team in past seasons, but now has the umpiring bug. Glen this season has been playing Division 7 then donning the clobber and umpiring Division 6 when the teams play at home back to back.

  1. has been ‘fast tracked’ and last Sunday at the North v Cardinals game umpired his first Division 1 game as the chief umpire and then was the base umpire for the second game of the double-header. Well done Glen, we at Kensington are proud of you for stepping up to help boost the umpiring stocks.

Clay is second from the left next to our Division 1 coach in Austin Gallagher. The other umpire is Paul Sowter and Norths coach in Zane Tomaszek

Baseball SA Super League:

The Northern Marlins are the 2020 Super League Grand Final winners beating the Seahawks 5-3.

Kensington players dominated the starting line-up - Sean Maple, Austin Gallagher, Bas Nooij, Michael Bishop, Greg Mosel, Jack Platten, Josh Whelan, Jason Lott with Tom Fitzgerald as the second pitcher.

Austin Gallagher was awarded the MVP.

The competition this season has seen the team being aligned with the Charter teams with the view of developing players by giving them the opportunity of experiencing baseball at a higher level.

Well done guys. Enjoy the spoils

. . .

To each and everyone, your families and loved ones.

Cheers,

Arthur Mac
